Forest healing helped with mulch from burned trees

Mulching a burn scar has been a popular forest service practice for years — it covers a forest floor with layers of woodchips or straw that emulate fallen pine needles or leaves that stop flood waters from freely coursing down drainages. While the mulching process might not be new, Moore was particularly excited by the type of woodchip the helicopter was dumping.

High Park Fire: From Science to Action and Recovery is a free, all-day/evening symposium dedicated to providing a comprehensive, science-based overview of the High Park Fire and its impacts, and connecting the community to best-available science and resources to aid recovery.

Hear lessons & insights and ask questions about the High Park Fire with knowledgeable speakers such as:

- Incident Commander Bill Hahnenberg,

- Larimer County Undersheriff Bill Nelson

- The USDA Forest Service

- Colorado Forest Restoration Institute

- Wildfire and ecology scientific experts

- Organizations comprising the High Park Fire Restoration Coalition, and more!

Learn about and interact with organizations mobilizing restoration activities and sign-up to volunteer to help support High Park Fire recovery!

The symposium will feature an adjoining exhibit hall and academic poster session presenting information, research, resources, and volunteer opportunities related to the High Park Fire. The exhibit hall will be open at the CSU Lory Student Center North Ballroom throughout the symposium .

Lowes Wildfire Preparedness Workshops

from the Long's Peak Chapter SAF

Attached are posters announcing three wildfire prevention related events occuring on the Front Range over the next several weeks. The Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS, www.DisasterSafety.org ) and Fire Adapted Communities (FAC, www.FireAdapted.org) have teamed up with Lowes for three presentations on structural ignitability. Dr. Stephen Quarles, IBHS, will be presenting at a Lowes in Fort Collins and Littleton stores. Colorado Spring Fire Department, Fire Marshal's Office, will be presenting in Colorado Springs. These will be 1.5-2 hour presentations about how homes ignite; primarily from embers.
